Crowns
Strong and Comfortable
Porcelain Crowns
A crown is an ideal solution if you have a tooth that has had previous root canal treatment or that needs a slightly larger restoration to restore shape, strength and function. They can protect a cracked tooth, restore functionality of a tooth with excessive decay or even replace a pre-existing crown. Because it is a rigid encapsulation or encasement of the tooth, it protects and strengthens in a way no filling can.
Unsightly metal crowns and bridges can be replaced with beautiful and lifelike all-ceramic crowns bonded in place, not cemented. These innovative crowns and bridges are comfortable and do not cause the temperature sensitivity that traditional crowns do, all while giving you a beautiful smile without gray lines or unnatural coloration.
We want your teeth to feel as strong and comfortable as nature intended. That's why when you have some damage or decay in one of your molars, we will often recommend a crown or an inlay or onlay to restore and strengthen the tooth.
An inlay is done when the tooth structure replaced is within the cusp tips of the tooth. If the damage is more extensive and the new structure covers the entire chewing surface, it is an onlay.
An inlay or onlay is a much more conservative restoration for the tooth than a metal filling. While traditional fillings can reduce tooth strength up to 50 percent, inlays and onlays made of high-strength porcelain can actually increase tooth strength by up to 75 percent, lasting from 10 to 30 years. This means that there is far less drilling and preparation than would be required for more traditional fillings, and allows us to save an optimal amount of your natural tooth.
If you already have amalgam fillings or repairs, and are concerned about the health risks or tired of how dark and old metal fillings can make your smile look, crowns, inlays or onlays may be a solution for you. We can safely remove your metal fillings and replace them with a beautiful, healthy, and natural looking crown, inlay or onlay.
